Earth’s Science Week

Embark on a Journey to Mars

“Earth’s Science Day” invites you to explore the wonders of Mars like never before. This immersive experience blends cutting-edge technology with expert insight, taking the participants on a journey through Martian landscapes. Whether they’re a student, teacher, or just a curious visitor, the program offers a unique opportunity to engage with planetary science up close.

Exploring Mars from Buenos Aires

At the heart of Ciudad Universitaria, inside the iconic “Pabellón 0 + Infinito,” the CONICET’s Immersive Visualization Saloon hosts a unique educational experience. Designed especially for students, this activity begins with a guided visit through university facilities, where participants are introduced to the fascinating world of Mars exploration. They learn about the Martian surface, past discoveries, and ongoing missions that continue to shape our understanding of the red planet.

Immersion in Martian Landscapes

The highlight of the experience takes place inside a specialized room equipped with a stunning seamless-projected wide screen, where visitors step into an immersive visualization of Mars, using NASA’s official Mars surface navigation platform. Researchers from the Planetary Geology Laboratory (LGP) guide the session by remotely controlling the environment—zooming in on geological formations, walking through canyons, and analyzing terrain features in real time. The visuals, combined with expert commentary, bring students closer than ever to interplanetary science.

Science, Collaboration, and Engagement

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Planetary Geology Lab and the Discrete Event Simulation Lab (SEDLab), aimed at sparking curiosity in planetary science among students, teachers, and even accompanying parents. With several successful sessions already held, the program continues to grow as a compelling outreach tool that combines cutting-edge visualization technology with passionate science communication.
