The XRLab Facility

Designed to support the most demanding interactive projects—from immersive simulations and reactive environments to rapid prototyping and public-facing experiences. It’s not only a workshop for technology, but a stage for innovation, performance, and collaboration.

Seamless Panoramic Projection

At the heart of the space is a 7×2 meter curved seamless screen, powered by dual short-throw projectors delivering native WUXGA (1080p) resolution. This surface acts as a flexible canvas for real-time simulations, spatial visualizations, and hybrid media installations. The screen’s curvature and seamless design allow for smooth, panoramic content integration that supports a wide field of view and heightened sensory immersion.

Core Processing & Control

At the center of the facility is a high-performance workstation powered by NVIDIA Quadro GPU, capable of running complex, high-fidelity simulations and real-time environments. Alongside it, a dedicated video server handles screen composition and synchronization for smooth content playback and layered visual arrangements. For lighter tasks and distributed control, we also integrate devices like Raspberry Pi 5 boards and ESP32 microcontrollers—ideal for managing sensors, triggering events, or supporting low-latency interactions across the space.

Sensor-Rich Interaction Toolkit

To support full-body interaction, motion capture, and spatial responsiveness, the facility is equipped with a range of devices that meet current development standards—including an HTC Vive VR kit, a Kinect camera, and Leap Motion sensors—as well as HD webcams, wireless joysticks, and remote pointers for screen-based control. This sensor array enables us to explore presence, agency, and real-time feedback across both physical and virtual environments.

Flexible Interfaces for XR Experimentation

Whether it’s a smartphone-based VR experience or a fully immersive room-scale simulation, the lab supports rapid prototyping across realities. We use a modular mix of development platforms like Unreal Engine and vvvv, along with a wide range of tools for real-time video processing, NDI streaming, and content generation. The facility is designed to adapt—to new ideas, new collaborators, and the unknown frontiers of interactive media.
